Territory and main cities
Located on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River, the Lanaudière
region has experienced in recent years an urbanization process concentrated
more in the southwestern part of the territory. The main municipalities of
the region are urban extensions of the cities of Montreal and Laval, which
explains the strong population growth of the past 20 years.

Economy and employment
The southern part of the Lanaudière region, which borders the St. Lawrence
River for about 50 kilometres, consists of lowlands suitable for agriculture.
The northern zone is covered by forests conducive to the lumber industry and
recreational tourism. Most of its small and medium businesses are in the food,
rubber, paper, housing, plastic products and furniture industries.
